Scotland:

The Hebrides and West Coast

7 nights, 8 days - £3,150 (incl. food, drinks & bike transport)

17th-24th july 2025

We arrive on a Thursday or Friday evening in the old 19th Century capital of malt whisky, Campbeltown after a transfer from Glasgow. Saturday starts with a circular warm-up ride south of Campbletown using a section of the Kintyre Way. In the afternoon we visit to Glen Scotia distillery.

The next morning we set off north, cycling up the quieter (but hilly) eastern coast of Kintyre, across the moor to Kennacraig before taking the ferry to Islay.

After a night on Islay in a wonderful hotel with great food we cross to Jura and then - via a tiny ‘rib’ ferry - to Tayvallich on the mainland and a short cycle to the hotel at Crinan. After an optional pre-breakfast swim in the loch, there follows a spectacular days cycling to Oban via the single track road on the West coast of Loch Awe and over Glen Lonan. (There is the chance early in the day to see some of the prehistoric monuments of the Kilmartin valley; the chambered cairns, round cairns, standing stones and rock carvings.) A private boat crossing from Oban takes us to a quiet corner of the Isle of Mull (we have seen sea eagles and otters on the crossing before).

The ride to Tobermory is one of our favourites especially the climb up through the glen to Balnahard and the rolling road along the coastline to Knock. There is an optional circular ride around the north of Mull from Tobermory the following day before we hop across on the late afternoon ferry from Mull to either the Morvern peninsular or Ardnamurchan and an early evening distillery visit.

The final 50 mile ride takes us to the finish of the tour at Fort William via a tiny ferry crossing at the end of another quiet singletrack road. There guests can board the sleeper train South to London or stay the night before the journey home

Amazing quiet roads, spectacular views and a comfortable pace for 50 miles or so a day (this isn’t a fast road riding trip).
